Like a sword of Damocles, a concern hangs over every life sciences start-up founded in Germany: will the company remain headquartered in Germany – and with it the underlying technology – or is there a risk of relocation abroad? This issue is not only on the minds of founders and investors; it is also repeatedly debated by policymakers, both in Germany and at EU level.
At the end of 2025, the European Commission presented the EU Biotech Act, a legislative proposal designed, as part of a broader industrial policy strategy, to strengthen Europe’s position in the global biotech race. The core idea is to establish Europe as a leading location for biotechnology and biomanufacturing. With increased capital, improved regulation, and a stronger focus on support mechanisms, the primary aim is to bolster the healthcare sector. We have therefore put the EU Biotech Act through a reality check and asked life sciences experts what the industry can expect at both EU and national level through to 2027.

In our cover interview, we spoke with Robin Lauber. The Swiss entrepreneur is co-founder of the family office Infinitas Capital. Coming from a real estate entrepreneurial family, he focuses on longevity, impact, and next-generation investing.
